I came across a person wanting to climb Mount Everest.
He was training himself every day. When I looked at his desire, I wondered at
the various dimensions available and how we choose the same. Your potential is your ability to achieve
whatever you have set out for yourself.
Living your potential is becoming the best version of yourself. When we
start thinking of living our potential to the maximum, we start pushing
ourselves to improvise upon ourselves.
All of us have dreams, desires, and wishes. Unless it is
backed by a plan of action nothing much happens to the potential. Start a plan
of action and start moving towards the dream. Every small step counts as long
as you are pointed in the direction of the dream and start moving.
We all want to live to our full potential? Start living your
life with a lot of love. That’s fundamental.
When we study the life of extraordinary people, it was discovered
that they all loved what they did. For example, in the case of Phil Knight, he
talks about shoes, dreams about them, sleeps with them and is absolutely
obsessed with them. He feels the shoe in every aspect of his life. And that’s
the spirit and character we need to have when we work towards unleashing our
potential.
The idea needs to be nurtured and cared for and become
internalized within us. That’s why the saying “Rome was not built in a day”.
The ability to continue on your path regardless of setbacks, unexpected situations,
challenges, and internal resistance which surfaces to continue firmly in spite
of stressful conditions is a common observance in all striving individuals. Reaching
your potential requires you to be persistent and determined. Quitting is not
something that is there in the minds even remotely.
Irrespective of all the success and levels attained, we can always
do more. Never ever think of limiting yourself. There is always room for growth.
Have monster goals and keep moving towards it. Note that people who are highly
successful in both their personal and professional lives continue to work,
produce and create more results in different avenues after they’ve flourished.
Arrive at your higher purpose
Go deep within and
ask yourself what you wish to be known for. How would you want people to
recognize you? What is that one thing which you want to accomplish?
Ask these questions
to yourself on a much deeper level. The more
you ask yourself, the more answers you will get. And the more you can
understand yourself better. So start by knowing yourself. It is very
important to find out who you want to be. That is the first step. Because your
journey will begin from there.
Once you know what
you want to become. Then check out the path to reach there from the position
where you are right now. Find out what are the skills and abilities that you
need to have to reach there. It is not enough to just think and dream about
what you want. You can become successful when you develop and become the right
person with the right characters, traits, habits, mindsets, beliefs, and
qualities. Then start upgrading yourself with the source and means of arriving
at the person you want to be. Start visualizing you are already the person from
the day you discover who you want to become.
Jump outside of your comfort zone
We all are very
comfortable in our zone of comfort and get rooted in the comfort zone. Start
getting comfortable with the idea of being uncomfortable. Be always on the move
of getting the skills and abilities. Do what it takes to arrive at that level.
There is always a way for whatever you want. Keep trying out the ways. One
cannot become a good swimmer just by watching and reading books or watching
videos of swimming. One has to get into the water, feel the water and get used
to moving in the water boundaries. Sooner or later you will start getting
comfortable in the water and you will start floating and forging ahead with the
right strokes without drowning. This is
exactly what you need to do if you want to live up to your maximum potential. We
cannot continue doing what we were doing all these years and expect
extra-ordinary results. Do you get it?
In other words, if you want to improve and do better regardless of whether it
is in your life or at work, you must do something else.
We have to change
our approaches and keep adopting new strategies, take a different action to
produce different results. Have the courage to do something uncomfortable and
venture beyond your comfort zone. If you want to explore the sea, you must be
willing to lose sight of the shore; it is time
to try new and different things. Sometimes, we succeed when we are doing
trial and error. You will never know the result until you keep trying. Thus,
have the courage to do the things that seem crazy, new or uncomfortable to you.
Watch the progress, not the prize
To start living
your potential always keep your eyes on the progress, not the prize. Do not
keep thinking of the end result and beat yourself up thinking that why am I not
reaching there. Instead, just focus on the step to be taken next and start
moving in that direction.
You don’t have to
see the entire staircase. You just need to focus on the next step and when you
arrive at that step, just move on to the next step. Make sure you keep moving.
The rest of the journey will reveal itself. Like what Confucius famously said: “The
man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” You just need to
focus on taking the small steps. As long as you are moving in the right
direction, no matter how slow, you will eventually get there.
