Planting Joy -
Togetherness for clean green spaces.
A real-life story
of creating a joyful space in the industrial hub of Haridwar by Himesh Kapoor and SEWA Sidcul Entrepreneurs Welfare Association team
- touched my heart. In the Industrial
area of Haridwar, the land allocated to being a park was used as a dump yard by
the industries. A voluntary initiative by industries led to the creation of
beautiful green space.
Approach to clean up
the space
Mr. Himesh Kapoor says - the area of the park was around 5000
meters. All the industries in the belt pooled together and had a discussion. The
layout planning was obtained and then they planned their action plan. The plan
included steps starting from garbage clearance, ground levelling, fixing gates,
pillars, obtaining saplings etc. We did not collect any money from anyone. We distributed the work amongst ourselves. For
example, one of the industry had recently done construction work and had some
spare pipes which they volunteered to spare. The fabrication industry collected
those pipes and gates were formed. One of the industry provided extra fencing
from their factory and another contributed by giving 300 saplings. The effort which took place for a duration of 4-5
months resulted in the beautiful park. Each sapling is assigned to the
work-force who take special care in nurturing them.
Maintenance of Park
The maintenance cost came up to Rs.20,000 in addition to
maintaining the gardener. We could not maintain from our personal accounts. One
of the members suggested we can give the land to a gardener and he can he start
his nursery in the park. We went ahead with this idea and today organic
vegetables are grown in the garden and we are getting fresh vegetables. Thus,
the park is also being maintained with no maintenance cost.
Indeed! togetherness works. They are on a drive of creating
awareness about clean-green environment. Mr. Kapoor says “if anyone wants to do this type of activity
create a goo d team and work together”. Mr. Himesh Kapoor and SIDCUL
team are an inspiration to each one of us and I thank him deeply for taking
out time to share this wonderful insight. Wishing the tribe more accolades.
