are core values guiding principles of the company?
Core
values are
the fundamental principles, traits, qualities, beliefs or views of a person or
organization which are of highest priority. These values are the driving forces of a
person or work-place behaviour.
Personal Core Values: Values are the expression and the
basis of our likes and dislikes. Every person has personal core values which are
inherent part of us naturally. They represent our individuality in a unique
sense. The values are visible to others through our behaviors and actions. They play a huge role in our decision-making
abilities.
When our
values and words are aligned with our actions we are at ease with ourselves and
are confident of facing any situation. When we are aware of our values and
start living by them then life becomes less stressful and more productive. Most
of us think we know our core values which may not be the case. Values
differ from person to person and may vary even among family members too.
Examples
of few values: Gratitude, respect, care, love, patience, appreciation,
kindness, dedication
Value check: Write down your personal values and
check it on daily basis in every decision you make. This will let you know if
you are living your values or not.
Company Core values: are the heart of the organization. Core
values become the company’s identity and essence. Core values reflect what the
company stands for and values the most. These values support the vision and
shape the culture of the organization. They help in smooth functioning of the
company.
Hiring process: Companies who live their core values
look for the same fit during the process of recruitment. when there is a value match, it helps
both the company and the prospective team member. The level of commitment will
be high from both sides.
Decision making: Company standards help in
decision-making. For example, a third
party vendor who designs handbags and clothing to an international supplier got
most of her handbags rejected as they were not meeting the standards of the
company in stich alignment though all other criteria in terms of material and
design were met. In next order, they number of rejects reduced as the stiches
were in line. Subsequently, the vendor herself rejects the pieces as she is
tuned to the company standards. Both the parties are aligned to the standards
in terms of quality, design and finishing.
Retention tool: Living the values on a daily basis as
core value values are put into action helps in attaining high levels of
productivity as accountability is high. Individual growth happens automatically
and strive to do the best in every milestone of their goals. Personal and professional growth is the aspiration
of top talent. A thriving environment sets the tone for the journey of
attaining the vision.
Ownership: Core values alignment help in
creating an empowered environment where team-members take initiatives beyond
job-responsibilities and care for positive outcome as much as the founders.
Core
values are definitely the guiding principles to overall
success of the organization. Core values build positive team spirit and
responsive behavior. It helps people to understand the difference between right
and wrong. Core values also help companies to
determine if they are on the right track of fulfilling their goals.
