5 Signs of healthy workplaces

A healthy workplace is one which is safe, supportive, engaging and adopts a healthy life-style. The work environment should be conducive to engage the work-force and create awareness of sustaining a healthy work-life integration. A healthy workplace is definitely the collective responsibility, participation and co-operation of each and every person of the organization.

1.      Resonate with the Purpose

It is in the interest of the employee and also of the organization to relate with the purpose. An organization which can articulate its purpose will attract people who can echo the purpose. When the matching takes place at the hiring level itself it is a good start as the emotional connect has already been established.

2.      Walk the Talk

The energy of the work-place carries a distinct energy where the management and work-force walk the talk and live by the values. Every team member starts imbibing from the beginning and slowly it becomes a part of their being. Defining the values should always be the priority during the inception and living by it by the founding members and team is an inherent part of the growth of the organization.

3.       Being at ease at work and with self

To attain the goals work-wise and on the personal front, it is important that the environment is conducive and the workforce is also at ease to work in the environment. Constant conflicts which are unsaid and unexpressed will lead to discomfort in the job and also health-wise. A self-check measure to check the ease with which we are working is equally important. This will nip the attrition rate when addressed to at the initial stages.

4. Team Spirit

Healthy workplaces evoke a strong sense of belonging among the teams and they look forward to put in their best. The team spirit works well for all the business units of the entire organization when the bonding is strong.

5. Openness

When the quality of openness is ingrained in the organizational culture, employees express their views openly and take in their stride when constructive implementation is done. The awareness that the decision is in favor of larger good will harbor fairness and will lead to development of healthy workplaces.

Healthy workplaces do not happen by default but requires nurturing the entire design from grass root level.
