Maheep was planning for a dream vacation
for a very long time. He had been saving and aspiring for the vacation. When he
went ahead and booked his tickets and did the bookings it was 6 months in
advance as he got a good deal of discount in the holiday package. He was
planning for his vacation and was also working at office to finish the areas
where his presence was a necessity. He didn’t want to take any new projects
before his vacation. However, he had a take up a new project as it was very
promising and fulfilling. This project had lot of growth. He simply could not
say “NO” to this kind of project. He started working on it in full zest. His
vacation days also started coming closer. His friends and family started
questioning him on his balancing abilities to his work and his lifetime
vacation. He took the help of technology and ensured his team that he will do
the needful as and when the situation arose. He started off with his holiday
and his virtual presence at work during the holiday ensured that work did not
get hampered. He in-fact enjoyed both his work and his holiday to the fullest.
He integrated his work and life so well that nobody had a complaint towards
him. He had also never expected that his holiday would flow so smoothly. His
career health and his emotional health blended seamlessly.
Only when the mind is fresh and healthy,
the productivity levels can be high. When life becomes a celebration of
integration, we can start experiencing the mirth of harmony in our lives. It
all depends on how each individual looks at bringing sense of incorporation
into their work and life.
Work-life
balance is a myth
The thought that enters the mind is that
there is a strong demarcation of professional work and personal life. Few of
them decide that this work time and family time. They start feeling guilty
whenever there is an overlap. They are under tremendous stress and tension as
they begin stretching themselves in either work or in their life. The quality
of work also starts getting affected as at work they are thinking about the
promise which they have broken for the family. When spending time with family
they are constantly worried about work piling up and they appear lost and
distracted. Such kind of people are neither happy with themselves or with the
people around them. They are the ones who are irritated and frustrated from
within.
Be aware if you are also one among them,
bring in flexibility within your frame of work-life. Make your family
understand that there are times where you will be required to be away from
them. At work, ensure that top priorities are taken care and you are there in
critical situations. This way you will be appreciated at both the sides. Most
importantly, you will be at peace with yourself. This will help you to give
your best wherever you are. One will ensure that both the sides are happy
including yourself.
Enjoy your
work
It is very important that one enjoys the
work and love what they do. We may not love every aspect of work that we are
doing. However, it should be not be the case where we are dragging ourselves to
work everyday for the sake of money. We should not dread getting out of bed and
going to the workplace. If this is the case, we would never be happy with what
we are doing. This will have its own impact on the productivity levels. We are
digging our own grave if we continue in this state. When we notice that we are
not enjoying what we are doing, then it is a sure sign for us to find out for
ourselves what we enjoy to do.
When you find that you are totally
drained at work and there is no energy left to do anything that you love you to
do. It is a sure sign of a toxic workplace environment. Get away from such
place and find something that you enjoy doing.
Health is Wealth
This saying holds good to date. Do
take care of your physical, mental, emotional and social well being.
Prioritizing your health first and foremost will make you a better employee and
person. Take time out for your health. A healthy person is a happy person.
Identify your health issues and work towards healing those issues, be it
anxiety, depression or anger. Some of them have chronic illness and neglect it due to the fact that they recurring. There are so many ways
of healing and dealing with the issues. Do not neglect them, however small or
big. If you are fighting a chronic illness, don't be afraid to call in sick on
rough days. Do not overwork and push yourself unnecessarily.
All of the above factors should help
you to move towards your health, career and relationship goals eventually.
Identify your time wasters and the time when you are productive. During the
day, there are times when you work the best. Planning your day can increase
productivity at work. It can also result in more free time to relax outside of
work. Follow your to-do list and start cutting out things that are of little or
no value to you.
we all have different life commitments
and priorities. It is vital for us to understand that work-life integration
will mean differently to different people. It is up to us to bring a sense of
harmony and well-being creatively into our work-life.
