5 Characteristics of Dependable Employee



Dependability is a quality of being trustworthy and being reliable. Every organisation seeks dependability in their work-force. A dependable person means what he says and can be counted upon. Dependability as a quality is visible in a select few people who go above and beyond every single day. This is a work ethic which is highly valuable in a person. When you come across such persons in your company do not let-go of them. They are the building blocks and the pillar of strength. When there are few dependable employees in the organisation, the morale of the team goes up and the productivity levels are also high. They are the role models and set such a positive example to others in the team.

Dependable employees are very important for any organisation. When the company is still in the growing stage and is a small enterprise the behaviour of the employees has a tremendous impact as compared to large organisations. A reliable employee’s attitude and behaviour at work is inspiring and at the same time infectious. It is very difficult to manage every small detail of an employee’s day at work. With dependable employees, employers can focus on other aspects of research and development rather than firefighting as there is a high degree of trust within the existing team. Rightfully Ambitious

When the right ambition in place, dependable employees start seeking out opportunities and won't just stand around waiting for something to happen. They start discussing the available ideas of path leading towards growth and they even have a suggestion list on improving the way work is being carried out. This ambition displays as a leadership quality. These ambitious team players are the ones who go places within the organisation. Such employees are the ones who usually stay put in the company with a longer tenure.



Owning Responsibility

A dependable employee usually owns up responsibility and needs less or no supervision at all. With most of the routine processes becoming automated, management will require such employees who are capable of managing themselves and also motivate others to do the same. Over a period of time such employees are the ones who can easily have a raise in their pay scale. When the responsible ownership is consistent with the employee, it only increases his value to the company. 

Being Trustworthy

Building trust is a very vital to building a long career. Trust building does not matter in a few weeks time. It is being consistently honest and transparent at work. This lays a solid foundation. Trustworthy employees are the ones whom one can turn to when things are going well and not going well too. They know what has to be done and will get the job done and even if they don’t know what to do, they are able to implement the instructions that are handed out and stretch themselves in time testing situations. They are just the kind of employees that one would want in an organisation. Ex: In a ticketing company, when customers are angry due to some minor faults, the dependable employees stand as the face of the company and bring the irate customer to a calmer level and make them understand the situation.



Flexiblity

Dependable employees are always flexible and adapt quickly to emergency situations. They understand the need of the hour and do not bring up personal dissatisfaction at times of need. The calling of the company and their values do not allow them to exhibit their displeasure in public. Dependable employees always seek out the employers and lay out their bone of contention in the open. Dependable employees start thinking on their feet and even if they are not skilled in any particular area, they go out of their way and help the customers to find the best possible solution for the moment. When organisational changes are being implemented, they do their best to implement the changes. 

This quality of adaptability when inevitable changes take place in an organisation should not go unrecognised. However employers should not take undue advantage of this flexible quality. The fine qualities should be appreciated and should be rewarded from time to time. This would be a great motivational factor. Transparency should always be maintained from both sides. The management should also be willing to find alternate ways when it comes to organisational restructuring and decisions should always be taken based on mass approvals.



Have High Self-Esteem

When there is high self-esteem among the work-force, the confidence levels are high and ofthen the performance at work is of a higher and a different quality. High self-esteem means that the workforce know what their capabilities and are not scared to push those limits when needed. They will produce the best quality of work, and won't keep decisions as a guessing game. The work is usually done faster as well in such cases. High self-esteem often goes hand-in-hand with ambition and are appreciable positive traits. High self-esteem is often visible in the way that the workforce dresses, talks and moves. This type of of confidence is hard to fake. It is easy to tell which employees have it in spades. Work on these few aspects to become a dependable employee. When you know from your heart that you are a dependable person you will be one of the most wanted persons around.
