The word Meditation has many misconceptions revolving around it. It has seeped in to people’s mind in various perspectives and dimensions. In its most-simplest form, meditation simply means  the art of being aware. Awareness includes the world within us and around us. There are many methods and techniques which helps us to become aware. When awareness is our constant companion, then we are being meditative in whatever we are doing, whether it is work, relaxing or playing.

Meditation at workplace means giving our best in a relaxed way. Most of us stress and tense ourselves to deliver our best and in the process are causing distress to ourselves. Some amount of stress is good which is called as eustress. As long as we are in the zone of eustress our productivity levels are high and we are healthy as well. Stress should not become distress. To avoid entering into the zone of distress we need to be relaxed from within and at the same time be aware of our deliverables and work towards it.  With increasing work pressure, workforce is looking at areas of work which add meaning to their lives and contribute to their overall well-being. Work is no longer looked at just as a source of livelihood but rather as an opportunity to realize inner satisfaction and a means of moving towards a bigger purpose. We need to understand our inner nature of working and adapt suitable approaches to function in a calm manner.

This knack of remaining relaxed in the most stressful and challenging situations is what we need to work on and integrate it our daily lives and in our work-life. Active meditations are recommended for those whose minds are very busy and find comfort in movements. Passive meditations are for those who find it easy to slip into silence. By integrating meditation and work, an organization can not only ensure more successful operations but also boost the sense of meaning for employees

Devoting certain amount of flexible time to meditate at work every day goes a long way in building coping techniques. It is important to create the environment of meditation so that the workforce feels happy to explore than being pushed to meditate. Few of them might not find any of the approaches useful, they should be encouraged to find their own path of relaxation.

Mindful Eating
Eating is not just to satisfy hunger pangs but to bring in the energy to the body. Do not eat thinking of the pending work. Relish each bite. Pay attention to the smell of food, the colour, texture, and feel taste. Bring your awareness to what it feels like to chew and swallow. Give yourself permission to be fully present in eating or conversations. This type of meditation will help you reset and re-focus for the second half of your day.

An Approach to be Sensitive
With meditation one starts becoming more sensitive at workplace. Follow the technique to start building your sensitivity. Take few minutes to pay attention to sounds which are coming in different directions. After coming to a comfortable position in the chair, meditate with your eyes closed and your breath slowing, turn your attention to the sensation of your body in the chair. To the pressure of your feet on the floor. Bring your awareness to your hands as they rest on your legs. Scan your body from head to toe stopping to acknowledge areas of tension and relaxation. Then, turn your attention outward to all of the sounds you can hear where you're sitting. Notice everything that hits your eardrum. There's no need to respond to or do anything for these few minutes, you're just witnessing your experience.
