Personal growth directly impacts professional growth. This
growth does not happen over-night; however, it is a result of a continuous effort
to improvise upon oneself. As the focus on personal growth happens, an
individual becomes more conscious of every activity done. This alertness will
help in managing one’s time efficiently. The thirst for self-improvement on a
daily basis is a preparation from within to overcome challenges at any point in
time. Personal growth begins at the very moment when one takes a decision to
look at oneself more closely. What happens in one area is reflected in many
ways in other areas of our life as every aspect of our life is interconnected.
Let’s look at ways of building this culture of self-development from within.
Personal goals which are set and achieved become a
motivation to accomplish professional goals. For example, the simple act of
putting back the things where you found them at home will eventually pave a
path for organising the things in your workstation as well. A clean workstation
or a handy workstation helps in getting the work-flow started smoothly. Though
it appears as a 2-minute job, the impact is much higher than expected.
Few points to help you set your personal goals and reap the
benefits at work
The Ability to Manage Time Effectively
Time management skills are always put to test everywhere. It
is a known fact that all of us are provided with the same 24 hours format. The
usual reason that people give when they arrive late is they had reached the
meeting place almost on time, and however something unexpected happened. If one
can plan ahead in advance and reserve 10 minutes time for the unexpected event
to unfold, then while getting delayed the stress will not build up. It is a
mental preparation in advance for the setback. This will not cause any panic.
In the event, there is no setback, just take the time to be at ease with your
own self. This puts one in the relaxed state of mind which will turn very
productive for the upcoming meeting.
One can start assigning the personal time from the minute
one wakes up in the morning. We all have different body types and thereby we
need different time span for different activities. So, choose what activity
needs to be done leisurely and what can be accomplished within a few minutes.
That way the body and mind will get tuned accordingly. There is no need to rush
all the time. Planning out the day ahead bearing the commute time and mentally
forecasting the day will aid in tiding over smoothly.
The calmer and more composed we are inwardly, the better the
results in our outward work. Tracking the areas where we spend more time, be it
in discussions or getting involved in mobile forwards or on social media or
newspaper are all minor interruptions which eat up a lot of our time unknowingly.
Lift yourself up from that activity when the time is overdue. Schedule a
particular time for such activities and stick to that particular time. Within
no time you will start finding that you are on time every time.
Building
Relationships with People at Work
Every person whom you meet and interact have something of
their flavour which can be savoured. With this attitude in mind, be open to the
idea of learning something from every person you meet. A workplace is a place
where relationships are built very easily. Co-workers do take extra effort to have
a cordial working relationship. Let the relationship not be restricted to being just
a working relationship. Few experiences would have led to some of the people
closing their hearts and maintain people at arm’s length. Relationships should
be gradually nurtured with all the care and attention. We spend most of our
waking hours in the office and that environment should not be toxic. Each one
of us are contributing to the energy space and that builds the momentum at
work.
There are times when few co-workers are nosy or nasty. That
does not mean we should also make it sourer. There are different reasons for
the behaviour of persons depending on the baggage that we are carrying. Just
being aware of the behaviour and slowly making them understand that it is not
your way make life easier at work. Always engage yourself in open communication
to build trust. In spite of all your best efforts, if things do not change as
you want it, do not give free rental space in your thoughts to such issues and
hamper your health. Do not hurt yourself. When you start taking care of
yourself, you will see that the relationships also start taking care of
themselves. This brings in harmony in the workplace.
Mind your Mind and Emotions
Usually, when emotions overcome
you, one loses balance and will involve in actions which will lead to severing
ties. Start tracking your emotions where you feel you are not able to manage.
It is the situation behind the emotions which is causing all the wreck.
Anticipate and be prepared for the situation and see whether you are reacting
violently or responding to the trigger which you encountered.
The ability to channelize
your emotional energy and make it work for you is an important skill for
building relationships and in work performance. Always welcome situations when
it comes to handling difficult co-workers as those situations will be the
testing ground of your emotional intelligence and managing emotions. These
situations will help you to sharpen your abilities to handle emotions wisely.
It is a great personal tool as well as it helps in managing personal
relationships.
Personal growth and
development is a continuous learning process. Be patient and compassionate
towards your self and you will be living your potential. You will also be
propelling towards your dreams in the right direction. Remember it’s always never too late to start
your journey of personal growth.
